Such processes make informed use of the tools offered by the digital world, include the development of the abilities to think, be creative, and work collaboratively, and tailor these abilities to meaningful learning. In the framework of the webinar, the participants will become acquainted with the principles of digital pedagogy as well as the methods and online tools for fostering the teaching, the learning, and the evaluation of the various components of the Arabic language: listening, written and verbal expression, reading, writing, acquisition of grammatical knowledge, and vocabulary enrichment. The webinar is meant for anyone who is keen to enrich his or her knowledge of the subject.

In this Webinar, we will learn to use a mobile platform called "thewandering" for indoor and outdoor location-based learning that is based on Benjamin’s ideas. By means of the platform, we will create a meaningful experiential activity in situ. I will share with you my personal experiences, as well as those of my colleagues from Kenya, Spain, Austria, Italy, and Mexico, in using the platform. You will visit sites containing indoor activities that take place in schools and museums and outdoor experiences that occur in a botanical garden and parks. We will learn a variety of beneficial ways to teach and engage your public. Everyone is welcome to join us! Lecturer Talila Yehiel Biography: Talila Yehiel graduated from the Ceramic Design Department at Bezalel Academy of Art. She also holds a Master's degree from the History of Art Department at Tel Aviv University. She has extensive experience in teaching pupils at all levels as well as in mentoring teachers. Her academic background, which integrates the material world, the creative process, and the world of research, furnishes her with tools that afford profound insight and a rich diversity of working strategies. Ms Yehiel has been involved in the creation of special tailor-made sites for museum visits, a project called "Learning Based on Location – thewandering". She has tried it out on various groups of students and adults. Wandering around an exhibition hall by means of this site gets people involved and encourages them to interact with the exhibits. Ms Yehiel has used her mobile platform all over the country with science teachers and high-school English teachers as well as with students, and has taught them how to create their own "thewandering" sites.

Creating Care-full Listening and Conversations between Members of Conflicting Multicultural Groups: The Case of Israeli Society

The existence of tension and strife between the different groups is a very common phenomenon—one that occasionally degenerates into violence of all kinds. This is the case in Israeli society, which is both multinational and multicultural: Jews and Arabs, native Israelis and new immigrants, religious and secular, left- and right-wing, and so on. The consequences of this strife and tension affect the schools, and the staff members are required to alleviate the tension in the short term and maintain an ongoing education process in the long term. To this end, a team in the Ministry of Education's Department of School Psychology and School Counseling has developed a program for school pupils based on narrative practices (not knowing, externalization, exception to the problem saturated narrative, deconstruction of power relationships, the complication of each side's preferred stories, and interviewing the internalized other) so as to create Care-full Listening and Conversation across multinational and multicultural divides. In the last few years, this program has been implemented in schools and communities for the purpose of creating a dialogue between Jews and Arabs, religious and non-religious, and right- and left-wing populations. It furnishes tools that can be learned and implemented in many multicultural and multinational society. Lecturer Yishai Shalif Biography: Yishai Shalif holds an M.A. in Psychology and works as a senior school psychologist and narrative therapist. He runs the school psychological services at the City of Modi'in Ilit. He is a co-founder and co-director of the Qesem Center and has a private practice. For over 15 years, he has been presenting extensively to diverse audiences (psychologists, social workers, teachers, principals, and parents) in Israel and abroad on Care-full Listening and Conversations, Narrative Therapy and Appreciative Inquiry. In this lecture, Yishai will present the theory underlying this program and will describe the program itself with examples from our collective experience.

Reading in the Digital Era

This shift prompts a wide range of questions pertaining to the similarities and differences between these two reading modes: the traditional reading mode from print and the new reading mode from digital displays. During my lecture, I will discuss the cognitive and ergonomic challenges that these two modes pose to learners, present an overview of our knowledge regarding the differences between print and digital reading, and foreground the pivotal role of self-regulation and learning strategies in effective digital reading. Lecturer Prof. Yoram Eshet Biography: Prof. Yoram Eshet is a senior faculty member in the Department of Education & Psychology at the Open University of Israel, where he heads the university's M.A. program in educational technologies. He is also the founder and former head of the Research Center for Innovation in Learning Technologies. Prof. Eshet has a diverse academic and professional background: a Bachelor's degree in Archeology, a Master's degree in Geology, and a Doctorate in Earth & Environmental Sciences. For over a decade, he served as the chief scientist of a computer company, designing and developing computer-based learning environments for the education systems in Israel and the USA. He was also the head of the Instructional Design Program at Tel Hai Academic College and served as a senior researcher at the Geological Survey of Israel for 15 years. Yoram's major research endeavors and publications focus on Human Computer Interactions and on the cognitive aspects of working with digital technologies. He studies the effect of technologies on a wide range of issues such as literacy, reading, academic fraud, gaming, and friendship. His geological research focuses on biological mass-extinctions and on pleoenvironmental reconstruction.

Lecturer Dr. Moanes Tibi Biography: Dr. Moanes Tibi holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Computer Science from the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn in Germany. He earned his Ph.D. from Bar-Ilan University. His doctoral dissertation was titled "The Impact of Structured Discussion Forums on Learning by Computer Science Students". Dr. Tibi has been lecturing in this field since 1995 and has served as the head of the Computer Science Department at Beit Berl Academic College since 2012. Over the years, he has written various articles and books, participated in conferences in Israel and abroad, participated in and headed projects associated both with integrating IT into teaching and with the development of online teaching and learning environments. His principal fields of research and interest include developing teaching and learning models in online environments, and exploring the effect of information technologies on teaching and learning among students and in society in general. Lately, Dr. Tibi has been taking an interest in computer science teaching programs for young people.

Lecturer Riki Greenberg Biography: Mrs. Greenberg holds a MLIS degree in Information Science from the Department of Information Science at Bar-Ilan University, Israel. She is currently a Ph.D. student in the same university. She works as a reference and IT librarian at the University of Haifa's Younes and Soraya Nazarian Library in Israel. She has been a qualified lecturer in information science and technology for the last 15 years, and is also employed as a teacher at the Western Galilee Academic College. She is a member of the editorial board of Israel's journal of information science, Meidaat, a special consultant for the Ministry of Education's Electronic Books Project, and a winner of the Finkler Award for special research in information science. Mrs. Greenberg has published articles in English and in Hebrew in peer-reviewed journals. Her main research interests include information behavior, information search, digital log analysis, academic libraries, and students' information needs.

Over 60 years have elapsed since this model became the cornerstone in curricular theory, but despite the time that has passed and the changes that have occurred, the model is still current and relevant today. We will position the important components of the model at the focal point of the lecture and enquire about their place in and value to the planning. The model is part of the course that is given by The MOFET Institute's International Channel on the topic of study planning. Lecturer Dr. Gadi Rauner Dr. Rauner holds a Bachelor's degree from Haifa University and Oranim Academic College of Education, a Master's degree in curriculum planning and history teaching from Tel Aviv University, and a Ph.D. in history teaching and cognitive psychology from Tel Aviv University. As of 2003, he has served as a teacher colleague at Tel Aviv University's School of Education, and since 2006, he has been a mentoring lecturer in the History Department of the Open University. His fields of expertise include curriculum planning and preparing history and civics teachers. Dr. Rauner has written many articles. In addition, he manages a Facebook group and a blog.

While Hebrew is the first language for many people living in Israel, it constitutes a second or a foreign language for Jews who live in the Diaspora. This webinar, which will focus on exposing young children to Hebrew as a second or third language, will consist of three parts: (1) Theories of second-language acquisition among adults as compared to children will be introduced as the framework; (2) Authentic ways of teaching young children a second or a foreign language, focusing on the integration of games, will be discussed; and (3) The Hebrew language and some of the challenges that may be experienced by Hebrew teachers in the Diaspora will be examined. That is a fact. However, to say the least, professors and lecturers do not approve of their students using Wikipedia as a source for their assignments. They are right. Wikipedia is not an academic source. Nevertheless, academics and students should be the main contributors to Wikipedia and make it their mission to expand the main source of the world’s free knowledge. My talk will suggest additional ways in which Wikipedia can be used in academia for preliminary research by students, practice of critical reading, and particularly for writing Wikipedia entries on topics that are linked to the curriculum. Lecturer Michal Lester Biography: Michal Lester has served as Executive Director of Wikimedia Israel for the past two years. Wikimedia Israel is the local chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation and works primarily with Wikipedia and other Wikimedia initiatives. Its aim is to promote the creation of new knowledge and work toward making information and knowledge accessible to all. Prior to joining Wikimedia, Michal served as regional director and head of two national programs at the JDC’s Centers for Young Adults (CYA). In this capacity, she was responsible for all the activities of all 10 CYAs in the central region of Israel. Previously, within the scope of her activities at the JDC, Michal established and managed The Penni and Stephen Weinberg Center for Lay Leadership. The center is the first of its kind in Israel to be dedicated to lay leadership growth and change. Michal serves as a board member of Jindas, the nonprofit organization for urban renewal in the city of Lod. Earlier, she served as co-chair of "Women to their Bodies", a women's NGO whose goal is to promote comprehensive social change as regards the attitudes of Israeli women both Jewish and Arab, toward health issues.

This webinar will map the various challenges and focus on the tensions that exist between pluralistic institutions and ultra-Orthodox institutions that raise essentialist or primordialistic Jewish identity. Lecturer: Dr. Yosi Goldstein Biography: Dr. Goldstein holds a doctorate in Contemporary Judaism from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He is an expert in areas concerning Latin American Jewry, and deals with numerous contexts such as relations with the State of Israel, Jewish education on the continent, Holocaust studies, anti-Semitism, and community life. Dr. Goldstein works at Yad Vashem and at The Hebrew University, teaching and conducting research. He is also involved in teacher education in the fields of Holocaust instruction and the history of the 20th century.
