Description:
The lecture focuses on the lives and careers of excellent school teachers via the concept of 'organizational citizenship behavior' (OCB), which refers to those work tasks that are not mandatory but rather voluntary and performed at the employee's discretion.
In the lecture, the participants will be exposed to varied forms of teacher OCB such as project initiation, helping novice teachers, in-depth lesson preparation, and so forth. Special attention will be paid to the factors responsible for urging teachers to perform OCBs and to the consequences of this kind of behavior. The lecture will further foreground the link between teachers who are self-starters and leading theories of educational leadership.
The webinar will be conducted in English.

Using Web 2.0 Tools to Transform Teaching and Learning
A course in the ICT in Education program
Rabbi Tzvi Pittinsky
This course is largely “hands-on” with the goal of learning various Web 2.0 technological tools for teaching and learning. The course will focus on free Web 2.0 tools for furthering communication, collaboration, constructivist and project-based learning, and the creation of compelling course content. Some examples of web-based tools that will be utilized include WebQuests, blogs, wikis, Voicethread, Google Apps for Education, and PollEverywhere. The application of advanced presentation tools like Smart Notebook, PowerPoint, and Prezi will also be discussed. The usefulness of cutting-edge technology models and general instruction will be debated. By the end of this course, participants should have created a number of project-based mini-learning assignments as well as one larger project to share with their colleagues and students. The tools and methods studies in this framework, are relevant to all subject matters from Judaic studies to General ones, and participants can apply them to fit their own fields of work. Example and reference will be made to both Judaic and General studies.

Varieties of Text in the Digital Age: Teaching and Learning with Blogs, Wikis, and New Emerging Genres
A course in the ICT in Education program
Dr. Sarah Schrire
In this course, we examine varieties of texts characterizing digital environments. Defining text broadly to include its verbal, pictorial, and multimedia aspects, we analyze how new genres and types of discourse are emerging. By focusing on the interplay between developments in literary theory over the past decades and the rapid technological changes occurring around us, we consider questions such as: How are personal and professional identities constructed in a world of social networks and online interaction and communication with others? Will electronic hypertext replace the book and transform the acts of reading and writing? Are the texts produced in blogs, wikis, and forums replacing traditional literary genres? How do these changes affect the ways in which we teach and learn?
We shall bring our own experiences as persons living and working in the age of new media to the center of the discussion and relate to these in light of the insights we gain from the selected readings and from our interaction with fellow course participants. Marshall McLuhan’s famous expression, “the medium is the message”, applies here and connects between the “what” and the “how” in the course as we discuss the new modes of text construction and social and professional communication in and through these same worlds of text.
